13. Hari Shrestha
"I arrived in Belgium from Nepal in 2004. Thanks to my children's Dutch-speaking school, I found a connection with the Dutch-speaking "N" network. Sport is a great passion of mine and in that respect, I motivate others to stay healthy and fit and want to make a connection between as many people as possible so that they too can find their way in our city."
Hari has Nepalese roots and works as an administrative and logistics officer at a Dutch-speaking non-profit organisation that works daily to integrate Brussels jobseekers into the job market. He is passionate about sports. In his spare time, he chairs a sports association. This way, he keeps motivating and inspiring everyone to stay fit and healthy.
My dream for Brussels
In Brussels, I feel at home. But it needs to be safer and cleaner. Girls should be able to move around the city without fear. It doesn't matter whether at 5am or 4pm. Shootings and drug violence have no place here. In our capital, I want to see more bicycle lanes and especially no trash bags on the streets. Brussels is the capital of Europe and we must live up to that image. Our city must remain affordable. We cannot follow London in terms of housing prices. We are a multicultural city where everyone should have opportunities.
Hari believes that when you want it, you can do it. He is a hard worker and has always combined his studies with a job. When he arrived in Belgium, he started working immediately and took language classes at the same time. His principle? Work hard, play hard. Work hard, play hard.
