This election is still subject to compulsory voting in Brussels!

You can choose to vote for the entire List 1. Or even better, for all our candidates on that list.

Your vote on October 13 will help determine whether living in your neighbourhood remains affordable. Whether the streets and squares are safe and clean. Whether children and young people can become the best version of themselves in a nursery, school or hobby. And whether Dutch speakers are represented in the city council!

Make your voice heard on October 13 and vote for the Vooruit.brussels candidates on list 1. For a municipal government close to the people that leave no one behind. For safe, pleasant and social municipalities. For you.

Share also the visual of your municipality with I Vote List 1.
This way, nobody can make a mistake in the voting booth.
You can download the visual here and share it on Facebook and Instagram.

Can I vote and how do I cast my vote

To vote, you must be of age and have Belgian nationality. EU citizens who do not hold Belgian nationality may vote in local elections if they are registered before Aug. 1. The same goes for non-EU citizens who have lived in Belgium for 5 years.

    • You will receive an invitation letter by mail from your municipality of residence. If you have not received your ballot paper, you can go and pick up a duplicate from the Civil Affairs Department in your municipality.
    • Once you arrive at the polling station, hand in your ID card and invitation letter. Voting is done digitally in Brussels. Digital voting has the advantage that you can never vote invalidly.
    • After you give your identity card and invitation letter, you will be given a chip card. In the voting booth there is a computer, you insert the chip card there.
    • You choose the language you want to continue in and then the computer takes you through a series of steps where you can choose lists and candidates.
    • Are you done? Then the computer prints a paper with a barcode and the summary of your votes. Is the summary not correct? Let a staff member at the polling station know. He or she will help you. Is the summary correct? Then give the chip card back to an employee and scan the printed paper. Leave the paper in the ballot box in exchange for your ID card and convocation letter.

If you can't go vote, give a proxy!

Know that voting is compulsory in Brussels. If you cannot vote on Sunday, October 13, you can give a proxy to someone who can vote in your place. This can be for medical reasons, if you have to work, you are travelling, as a student or for religious reasons.

    1. Complete the proxy form (PDFWord) , sign it and have it attested.
Through the proxy form, you authorise your proxy recipient to vote on your behalf. Complete the form and sign it. Have your proxy recipient sign it as well.
    2. Go to your doctor, employer, organisation or mayor, depending on your personal situation, to have them confirm why you cannot vote. That person signs form and also puts a stamp of the government, institution or company in the form.
    3. Note: In case you are self-employed, or if you are travelling, a sworn statement (PDFWord) must also be submitted to the mayor of your municipality.

To whom can you give your proxy?

Anyone entitled to vote in local elections in Belgium. The proxy holder may only carry a proxy for one person and must vote for you in your municipality.

How to vote with a proxy

    The proxy brings with him/her:

    • The proxy form
    • The proxy's convocation letter
    • The proxy's own convocation letter
    • The proxy's own identification card

The voting is otherwise done in exactly the same way as described above. However, you must first cast your own vote before you can vote for the proxy giver.
