The Zaadstraat in Molenbeek is to be given permanent School Street status. This was announced by alderwoman Saliha Raiss (Vooruit) following a successful trial period at the De Knipoog primary school. The measure is part of a broader plan to make school environments safer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the start and end hours of the school day, the street will henceforth be closed to vehicular traffic. Only pedestrians, cyclists and emergency services will still have access then. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want to give the space at the school gate back to the children.\u201d <\/em>says Raiss. \u201cThey deserve a safe, calm environment.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Test project gets the green light<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The School Street was temporarily introduced and tested between September 23rd and December 20th last year. The reactions from parents, the school, and local residents were positive. Less chaos at the school gates, less noise, and more safety for young pedestrians and cyclists. For Raiss, these are more than sufficient reasons to make it a permanent safe School Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Specifically, the road will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 08:15 to 08:45 and from 14:50 to 15:20. On Wednesdays, different times apply: from 08:15 to 08:45 and from 12:00 to 12:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Structural approach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Alderman Raiss is working on a structural approach whereby School Streets will be examined and implemented in multiple locations in Molenbeek. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are currently studying two additional locations. My objective is clear: where possible, we will implement a School Street.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The council wants its policy to address the growing concerns around road safety and air quality at schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf we want children to walk or cycle to school, we must ensure that the journey is also safe and pleasant.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n With the definitive implementation of the School Street in Zaadstraat, Raiss is continuing its mobility policy, focusing on liveable neighbourhoods and child-friendly infrastructure.<\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":4254,"template":"","categories":[],"class_list":["post-4337","nieuws","type-nieuws","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
