As Brussels' second-largest municipality and one of the most deprived in all of Belgium, Anderlecht faces enormous challenges. Safety, social cohesion, cleanliness – all with very limited resources. Nevertheless, the municipality manages to keep its budget balanced without increasing the burden on Anderlecht residents.
How? By making responsible choices.
The municipality is keeping its operating costs under control, investing in more efficient administrations, and increasing revenue by taking a firmer stance against illegal practices — without affecting personal income tax or property tax.
Or as the Councillor for Finance Bieke Comer it states:
“Balancing the budget without cutting local services is quite a feat. We need to be smart about our spending and increase our income thoughtfully. Every euro we spend must be spent wisely.”
Additionally, investments remain stable: €1.2 million for the renovation of municipal roads, €850,000 for footpaths, and additional funds for education, youth, seniors, and sports.
With this budget, the municipality is moving forward and choosing good governance. For every resident of Anderlecht.
